8 Reasons Why Career and Technical Education is Important

In the past, many people held the belief that career and technical courses were for those students who couldn’t “cut it” in a regular classroom environment, whether it be academically or behaviorally.  Luckily, in today’s society this view is changing.  More and more people are beginning to realize the value of career and technical education courses.

Here are 8 reasons why career and technical education is important:

  1. It is the only high school program that develops personal, academic, and career skills.
  2. It supports core academic skills through experiential learning.
  3. It is critical to our nation’s economy, as students graduate with work-ready skills.
  4. It engages more students, thus lowering the drop-out rate.
  5. It builds positive relationships through various mentoring programs and promotes leadership, personal growth, and career success in students.
  6. It increases student achievement.
  7. It promotes entrepreneurship.
  8. It creates a smooth transition from high-school to post-secondary education and from education to careers.

We must continue to work to improve the perception of career and technical education in our society in order to help our students develop the tools they need to succeed in today’s workforce.
